September 18, 2025

Program Description

This event is designed to equip emergency department (ED) physicians, hospitalists, advanced practice providers (APPs), nurses, and residents/fellows with evidence-based knowledge and clinical skills to enhance the care of patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) in acute care settings.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology of SCD, including best practices in transfusion management, inpatient pain control, and psychosocial support. The session will also address strategies for effective discharge planning to ensure continuity of care for patients admitted through the ED or hospitalized with SCD-related complications.

In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the Inova Adult Sickle Cell Program and explore how our team can assist in patient management, care coordination, and discharge planning to support optimal outcomes across the care continuum.
