Alexis Carena is a maternal health and patient safety advocate, and a Director of National Accreta Foundation, based in Northern Virginia. Alexis is a survivor of placenta accreta spectrum, which required life-saving surgery and blood transfusions during her son’s birth. ­Her patient story has been shared at Inova Health System’s IGNITE talk series, Inova’s INhealth Magazine, and at blood drives in the Washington DC area. Alexis focuses on increasing awareness of placenta accreta spectrum and peer mentoring patients.
