Eugenie Charles, MD, FAAP is a Pediatric Emergency Physician at the Inova Loudoun Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Inova Loudoun Hospital, and the Medical Director of the Inova Loudoun Hospital Concussion clinic. She is also the Chief DEI officer for Commonwealth Emergency Physicians. She is also she is the author of a children’s book about COVID19, entitled “Achoo, the day Corona came to visit”. Dr. Charles earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, her Doctor of Medicine degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. and her pediatric residency was completed at the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children, in Falls Church, VA. She is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Eugenie was born in Brooklyn, NY to Haitian parents, and moved many times as a child. She spent her early years in Toronto, Canada and in the Bahamas, but considers Silver Spring, MD her home. She is a wife, and mother of two wonderful children. She enjoys traveling, reading, music, and any outdoor activity. She speaks fluent Spanish and French. She is also a member of 2 community organizations that focus on charity work specifically in Loudoun County where she currently lives. In the past few years with the current public health crisis she has witnessed firsthand, as an ER physician, how COVID has exacerbated existing health disparities, as well as economic disparities. She feels passionate about taking the lead to help educate those that are willing to learn about the history of African American, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans and other historically marginalized communities, which is essential in helping to eliminate bias, disparities and racism in our country. She is currently a member of multiple groups that are working towards these efforts including a Regional Health Disparities Collaborative, and she is the Physician Champion of the Loudoun Health Equity Community Action Committee.
