Celeste Durnwald, MD
Dr. Durnwald is an Associate Professor of OB/GYN and a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the director of the Perinatal Diabetes Program at the University of Pennsylvania and High Risk Services at the Helen O. Dickens Center for Women’s Health Center. She has conducted clinical trials and prospective cohorts in both pre-gestational and gestational diabetes. She has served as site-PI for two NICHD funded multicenter trials: 1) MOMPOD Study, recently completed, evaluating the safety and efficacy of metformin added to insulin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in pregnancy and 2) SPAN Study, Time Aim evaluating the optimal timing of delivery for patients with gestational diabetes. Her clinical and research interests include evaluating the use of continuous glucose monitors (CGM) in individuals with diabetes in pregnancy. She has recently completed the GLAM study, a large prospective cohort of 760 participants using continuous glucose monitors (CGM) to better characterize glycemic profiles indicative of a diagnosis of gestational diabetes and adverse perinatal outcomes independent of a GDM diagnosis.
