Teenu Xavier is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at George Mason University and a doctorally prepared nurse scientist. She completed her Postdoctoral training at the University of Florida, where her work focused on identifying and reducing biased language in electronic health records. She holds a PhD in Nursing Research from the University of Cincinnati and a master's degree in Neurosciences Nursing. Dr. Xavier’s research integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing to enhance healthcare communication and improve patient outcomes. She analyzes electronic health record text-based data to uncover patterns, language features, and contextual cues that influence care, with a commitment to promoting empathetic, patient-centered documentation and addressing social determinants of health. Her work also extends to analyzing diverse sources such as clinical notes, social media, and blogs to study sentiments, emotions, and health-related conversations, particularly in the context of health disparities.
In addition to her research in nursing informatics and big data analytics, Dr. Xavier has expertise in health promotion, resilience-building among health professionals, neurosciences and critical care nursing, and global health initiatives. She has been recognized for her significant research contributions through various awards and has disseminated her findings via publications and presentations at local, regional, and international conferences.
