Course Description:

This interactive workshop is designed to equip ED providers and nurses with practical, team-based communication strategies to proactively set expectations, de-escalate conflict, and foster collaborative relationships with patients and families. Participants will review evidence-based communication tips and techniques focused on addressing delays and inconveniences, managing the frustrated or angry patient, and leveraging team partnership to support optimal outcomes. Through facilitated discussion, learners will identify common difficult situations encountered in the ED and share best practices across disciplines. The session emphasizes experiential learning, with participants practicing targeted communication skills in realistic simulations using trained patient actors.
