Program Description
The 2027 ECMO Symposium: Advancing Excellence in Extracorporeal Life Support will convene multidisciplinary experts to address emerging evidence, evolving technologies, and systems-based strategies influencing contemporary VA and VV ECMO practice. As the Inova ECMO program continues to mature as a regional referral center with international recognition for excellence, educational needs have shifted from foundational management toward advanced clinical decision making, quality optimization, and regional systems integration. This activity is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, perfusionists, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals involved in ECMO care. Content will focus on advanced management strategies, complication mitigation, ECPR systems design, post ECMO recovery, and quality benchmarking aligned with national standards. Building upon prior symposia that emphasized regional standardization, this program aims to enhance multidisciplinary coordination, refine referral practices, and improve patient outcomes across the continuum of extracorporeal support.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, learners will be able to:

- Apply advanced ECMO management strategies, including cannulation approaches, LV unloading techniques, and complication mitigation, to improve outcomes in patients with cardiopulmonary failure.
- Integrate multidisciplinary communication, referral pathways, and coordinated team-based care into ECMO program operations to optimize patient selection and transfer timing.
- Demonstrate practical approaches to ECMO circuit management, emergency troubleshooting, and ultrasound-guided cannulation through simulation and hands-on workshops.
- Recognize the long-term recovery challenges faced by ECMO survivors and incorporate patient-centered perspectives into clinical decision making and program development.

Parking is complimentary at the Inova Center for Personalized Health Conference Center (ICPH) . Park in any surface parking lots and use Entrance 3 under the Pedestrian Bridge to enter the Conference Center. Take the stairs or elevator to Level 2.

Airports and Ground Transportation
Inova Center for Personalized Health Conference Center (ICPH) is centrally located between Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) and Reagan Airports (DCA). Union Station (in Washington, DC) is located about 30-40 minutes from the campus. Both airports along with Union Station offer onsite ground transportation to Fairfax, VA which is about a 30–40-minute drive. Uber or Lyft are also reliable ground transportation options in the DC metro area.
