Formal training for all team members in safety science and its practical applications, starting with leaders, is crucial for achieving zero harm and fostering a culture of safety and reliability. Key leadership competencies necessary to achieve a culture of safety and our care mandate include:
 
•    Reporting, learning, and improving for sustainable excellence and reliability towards zero harm.

•    Fostering psychological safety that values, respects, and is inclusive of every team member’s unique perspective to speak up and contribute to safe care.

•    Balancing shared accountability that is fair and just in a safe and respectful manner through consistent safety behaviors and practices that prevent harm.

•    Practicing humble and supportive leadership that promotes joy, resilience, and a healthy work environment for all team members to thrive in.
 
After completing the training, leaders will be equipped with basic safety science principles and skills to effectively manage safety events and enhance daily safety practices.

The Medical Society of Virginia is a member of the Southern States CME Collaborative, an ACCME Recognized Accreditor. Inova Health System Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the Southern States CME Collaborative to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Inova Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) ™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
