Bethany Gorter, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist and rehabilitation neuropsychologist specializing in neuropsychological assessment and evidence-based psychological intervention in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. She is currently a neuropsychologist at Inova Mount Vernon Rehabilitation Hospital, where she works with individuals and families adjusting to the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects of neurological injury and complex medical conditions.

Dr. Gorter’s clinical expertise includes comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation and intervention following traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative conditions, as well as health-related disability. Her approach emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and family engagement, frequently working alongside physical, occupational, and speech therapists to optimize functional outcomes and community reintegration. She provides targeted interventions addressing mood, adjustment to disability, and health behavior change. She is passionate about the intersection of mental and physical health. 

Dr. Gorter earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Montana. She completed an APA‑accredited doctoral internship at the Boise Veterans Affairs Medical Center, followed by a two-year clinical neuropsychology fellowship at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC.
