Dr. Mehrine Shaikh is a board certified Ophthalmologist, specializing in cataract surgery and the medical treatment of patients with retinal diseases including age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other complex disorders of the retina. 

Dr. Shaikh graduated from Aga Khan University where she completed her medical training. She deepened her knowledge in complex retinal disorders while completing a clinical research fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institute in Boston. Dr. Shaikh then went on to complete her residency in Ophthalmology at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. 

Her desire to focus on Medical Retina led her to complete a fellowship at the prestigious Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard medical school, ranked among the top programs in the nation for Ophthalmic training. 

She then joined private practice in 2016; after which she founded Fairfax Cataract and Retina in January 2025, where she aims to provide the best of care to patients, using cutting edge technology and the latest treatment modalities.
