Amy Mathers, MD, D(ABMM)

Amy Mathers is Professor of Medicine and Pathology at the University of Virginia. She served for 15 years as the Clinical Director of the Adult Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and currently serves as Associate Director of Clinical Microbiology. Nationally, Dr. Mathers is a recognized leader in antimicrobial resistance. Her research focuses on detection, transmission and genomic tracking of antimicrobial resistance genes as they move between bacteria with funding from CDC, NIH and FDA. She is the current Chair of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Subcommittee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing and a contributing author to the 2024 Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) guidance on the treatment of antimicrobial-resistant Gram-negative infections.
