Dr. Lam is a non-operative spine fellowship trained specialist who focuses on comprehensive and evidence-based diagnostic algorithms and minimally invasive treatments for painful spinal conditions. He practiced in Winchester VA before joining INOVA in 2025.
Dr. Lam has enjoyed patient education and graduate medical education since his time as a resident working with the medical student education program, as well as with residents during fellowship, and CME credit talks as an attending. He was a principle investigator in a clinical study on intra-discal enzyme for treatment of disc herniations, as well as sub-investigator for studies for several intra-discal biologics as well as coolief radiofrequency ablation.

Dr. Edward Lam is a specialty care physician board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2015.
Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Lam was an interventional spine specialist at Valley Health Interventional Spine in Winchester, VA.
Dr. Lam completed his medical degree and then stayed to complete his residency training at the University of Rochester, serving as chief resident in his final year. He then completed his North American Spine Society-accredited interventional spine fellowship in Richmond, VA.
Dr. Lam’s clinical areas of interest include comprehensive care of painful spinal conditions such as back, leg, neck or arm pain due to spinal stenosis or disc herniations, painful discogenic pain, and painful facet arthritis.
Dr. Lam’s practice focuses on comprehensive diagnostic consultations for painful spinal conditions and spine mimickers, maximizing conservative treatment options and nonopioid medication management. When medically indicated, Dr. Lam performs minimally invasive image-guided procedures such as neuromodulation with spinal cord stimulation, selective nerve root blocks, transforaminal epidural steroid injections, and facet joint or sacroiliac joint radiofrequency ablation. He enjoys teasing out conditions that can mimic spine conditions, such as hip joint pain, and diagnosing more complex, long-standing spinal conditions with specialized procedures such a lumbar discography and diagnostic nerve root blocks to aid his surgical colleagues for operative planning.
Dr. Lam is passionate about improving function and quality of life through evidence-based medicine – developing a personalized and comprehensive treatment plan with his patients.
His approach to care involves educating patients about their condition, advising as to the current standard of care and available treatments, and helping guide the next best steps.
Dr. Lam is a native of New York and has settled down in Northern Virginia with his wife, two children, tabby and German shepherd.
