Julia Coleman, MD, MPH

Julia R. Coleman, M.D., M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor in Surgery in the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn Surgery at The Ohio State University. Dr. Coleman graduated magna cum laude from Elon University, after which she received her Master’s in Public Health from The Ohio State University. She was subsequently awarded her Medical Degree from University of Toledo College of Medicine, where she was an AOA member and Gold Humanism award recipient. She then completed General Surgery Residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. During residency, Dr. Coleman completed a 2-year NIH T32 research fellowship in their Trauma Research laboratory, developing her research program in sex dimorphisms in coagulation. She then completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the Ohio State University before joining the Department of Surgery as faculty. She has continued her research, focusing on sex dimorphisms in platelet biology and the effect of sex hormones on cellular physiology, having established a coagulation core at OSU. As a result of her research, she has published over 70 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, received independent funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Foundation for Women and Girls with Blood Disorders, and the AAST, and presented at 50 national and international conferences. She has received a variety of awards, including the national top 40 female surgeons under 40 awarded by the Association of Women Surgeons. However, what Dr. Coleman is most proud of is being the wife of her best friend, Jeremy, and the mother of their son, Norman.
