Angelike Liappis, Associate Professor of Medicine, GWU
Dr. Angelike (Angie) Liappis is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at GW. After completing fellowship, Dr. Liappis joined the GW Medical Faculty Associates, Division of Infectious Diseases and, currently is a full-time faculty member in the Section of Infectious Diseases at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Liappis holds the rank of associate professor with appointments in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Medicine at GW, and is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Dr. Liappis serves as the Medical Director for the Washington, DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), co-Chairs the DC VAMC ASP Committee, serves as the regional lead for the Capitol Care Veterans HealthCare Integrated Network (VISN-5, six VA Medical Centers DC-MD-WV) Antimicrobial Stewardship Collaborative. She serves as co-Chair of the regional development program for VHA National Antimicrobial Stewardship Taskforce and directs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Elective for Internal Medicine residents. Dr. Liappis serves on a number of GWU Medical School Committees and serves in in longstanding leadership role in the GW Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr Liappis serves as faculty-mentor for the GW Medical Student ID Interest Group (IDIG) and mentors GW students, residents and fellows; she teaches on the wards and in the pre-clinical curriculum for the GWU medical school. In addition to her commitment to medical education, her interests include improving awareness of the unintended consequences of antibiotic choices, protecting the microbiome and the selection of multi-drug resistance bacteria
