Jennifer Schwartz, MD, FACS
Jennifer A. T. Schwartz, MD, FACS is a Trauma, Acute Care and Critical Care Surgeon at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She graduated from James Madison University with Honors in Biology and double minors in Chemistry and Studio Art. She is a 2008 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and proud to now hold academic appointment with her alma mater as an Assistant Professor of the UVA School of Medicine. During general surgery residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, she completed an additional three years of academic development: a 2-year fellowship at the NIH Clinical Center in parallel with completing the NIH-Duke Masters of Health Sciences Clinical Research Training Program; followed by a 1-year fellowship at the Children’s National Medical Center Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation where she spearheaded the creation of the first annual pediatric surgery innovation symposium. She also created and published the ETHICAL Model to guide surgical innovation, a model that has been implemented internationally and used by professional medical societies to inform policy. After residency she went on to complete two subspecialty fellowships, one in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and one in Surgical Critical Care. She is currently a Council Member on the American College of Surgeons DC Metro Chapter and a member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) Mentorship Committee and serves on the Executive Leadership Subcommittee. She is very passionate about pediatric trauma and has special interests in global surgery, surgical innovation and clinical research.
