Yoel Sadovsky, MD

Yoel Sadovsky, MD, has served between 2007-2024 as the Scientific and Executive Director of Magee-Womens Research Institute and a Distinguished Professor of OBGYN, and Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh. He was also the Elsie Hilliard Hillman Chair of Women's Health Research and Associate Dean, Women’s Health Research and Reproductive Sciences at Pitt. He recently moved to Stanford University, California, where he continues his research work as a Senior Research Scientist and Adjunct Professor in the Dept. of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine
Dr. Sadovsky’s research integrates molecular, cellular and informatics tools to decipher placental development and adaption to injury, with a focus on trophoblastic non-coding RNAs, which are packaged in extracellular vesicles and communicate among the fetal, placental, and maternal compartments.
Dr. Sadovsky received his MD from Hebrew University–Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, followed by OBGYN residency at Washington University in St. Louis, and maternal-fetal medicine fellowship and postdoctoral research training at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Sadovsky is principal investigator of several NIH grants. His honors include membership in the Councils for NICHD, the March of Dimes, and the NIH’s Advisory Committee on Research on Women’s Health. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the Association of American Physicians, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ad eundem), and the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society. He served as president of the Perinatal Research Society (2007-08) and the Society for Reproductive Investigation (2016-17). In 2013 he was awarded the Cozzarelli Prize in Biomedical Science from the National Academy of Sciences.
