Patty Seo-Mayer, Patricia Seo-Mayer, MD, FAAP, FASN
Dr. Patricia Seo-Mayer is the Chief of Medical Subspecialties with the Inova Children's Multispecialty Center and the Medical Director of Inova Children’s Nephrology. She is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric nephrology and also serves as the Associate Program Director of the Inova Children's Residency Program, where she takes an active role in mentorship and advocacy education. She is an Associate Professor of Medical Education at the UVA School of Medicine.
Dr. Seo-Mayer grew up in Lima, Ohio, attended Harvard University, and then served as an AmeriCorps volunteer after college, providing cancer education and support to underserved and minority populations. She realized she could impact the lives of many people by being a physician and always loved working with kids. She received her medical degree from the University of Toledo and completed her residency and fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Seo-Mayer chose nephrology, because the types of conditions affecting kids in the field are fascinating, involve multi-disciplinary collaborative care, require critical thinking, and can often have an excellent outcome. She became involved in advocacy later in her career, through the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology where she is a steering committee member of the John E. Lewy Advocacy Scholars program, which formally trains pediatric nephrology team members in advocacy.
Dr. Seo-Mayer enjoys spending time with her husband, three kids and parents, and currently has the distinct pleasure of being the parent of three teenagers and a young-adult dog named Bruce.
