Cynthia Gibson MD, MHA
Dr. Gibson is the Pediatric Department Chair of Inova LJ Murphy Children’s Hospital and the Service Line Director for Clinical Excellence. She also currently serves as the Interim Director for Research for the Pediatric Service Line and currently practices Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Prior to serving as the Department Chair, she was the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Medical Director, Physician Advisor for Pediatric Case Management, served on multiple departmental committees, and worked on numerous HRM/VIP/QI projects.
Dr. Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Science in Toxicology from the University of Arizona. She then attended Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed a Transitional Internship at National Naval Medical Center and a General Medical Officer tour in the US Navy. After her active-duty obligation was fulfilled, she completed her Pediatric Residency and a Chief Resident year at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children, then Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center. She subsequently earned a Master of Health Administration from Ohio University.
Dr. Gibson is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, having served 25 years with active and reserve duty. She served in numerous leadership capacities most notably as the Senior Medical Executive / Director of Medical Services of the Expeditionary Medical Facility, Bethesda.
