Vanessa Blumer, MD
Dr. Vanessa Blumer currently serves as an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, where she holds dual roles as the Associate Director for Heart Failure Research and Co-Director for Heart Failure Outreach. Dr. Blumer's academic career started at Universidad Central de Venezuela, where she received her Medical Degree, earning an honorific distinction in research. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency and served as a Chief Resident at University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she received the annual Research Award. Subsequently, she pursued a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship and a one-year Cardiovascular Research Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI). During her time at Duke, she was awarded the AHA’s Laennec Fellow-in-Training Clinician Award. More recently, Dr. Blumer finished an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology (AHFTC)fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, and was named Fellow of the Year. During her time at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Blumer dedicated over 6 months of her training to developing skillsets in the heart failure intensive care,cardiothoracic intensive care, and heart failure cardiac catheterization lab. With over 80 publications to her name, a significant portion of her research focuses on cardiogenic shock. Her research efforts primarily involve clinical outcomes of acute and advanced heart failure patients, especially those in cardiogenic shock or requiring mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation. Furthermore, she investigates health disparities and gaps in implementation of heart failure therapies.
