Askin Uysal, Askin Uysal, MD, MBA, MHCM

Dr. Askin Uysal is Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Medical Director of the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) at Tampa General Hospital, as well as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine, with clinical expertise in advanced heart and lung failure, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), mechanical circulatory support, and heart and lung transplantation.
Dr. Uysal earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, completed his Internal Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and completed fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. He earned an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master of Health Care Management (MHCM) from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
His academic interests include ECMO, cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, heart and lung transplantation, quality improvement, patient safety, and critical care innovation. Dr. Uysal has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, presented nationally and internationally on ECMO and advanced critical care, and is actively involved in ECMO education, multidisciplinary critical care, and advancing evidence-based care for patients with complex cardiopulmonary disease.
