Heather Bernard, MD MPH
Heather Bernard is a General Pediatrician at the Inova Cares Clinic for Children. She completed her training at UMPC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she was selected to serve as a chief resident for her program. She later completed a General Academic Pediatrics fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital during which time she completed her Masters in Public Health at the Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health. During fellowship, she focused her research efforts on primary care issues that affected underserved communities, and addressing implicit bias, racism and microaggressions in clinical care.
Currently, her scholarly interests remain focused on serving underserved populations and medical education. As such, she teaches University of Virginia School of Medicine-Inova campus students and functions as one of their course directors. She is also an Associate Program Director for the Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital pediatric residency program.
