Krystal Cleven, MD

Krystal L. Cleven, MD, MS, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. She is the the Co-Director of the Adult Asthma Center at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Cleven cares for patients with difficult-to-treat and severe asthma, including those with lifelong asthma, adult-onset asthma and asthma complicating pregnancy.
After earning her Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 2012, Dr. Cleven completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine in 2015. She then completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine at Montefiore Einstein in 2018 and earned her Master of Science in clinical research methods at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2022.
Dr. Cleven’s research centers on the respiratory health of New York City Fire Department first responders from the September 11th world trade center attacks, with a focus on sarcoidosis and other respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and she has given several invited presentations. Dr. Cleven has been co-investigator and co-principal investigator on multiple federally funded studies.
