Melanie Maron, Executive master's in professional studies
Melanie Maron is the Quality Coordinator for the Abdominal Transplant department. She works tirelessly to ensure that the Abdominal Transplant team follows all mandated regulations and optimizes patient care processes. She holds a master’s degree in emergency and disaster management from Georgetown University. She is a paramedic by trade and fell in love with medicine as a young CNA in a nursing home in Durango CO. As she bore witness to the last moments of life, she knew that this was where she could make the biggest impact. After a severe spine injury forced her retirement, she retrained as a Graduate Gemologist and worked for a time as a diamond buyer for one of the largest jewelry companies on the west coast. But her love of medicine, bodies and people called her back. She started in transplant as an organ coordinator and experienced the joy of calling a patient in the middle of the night to let them know that it is their turn, and the liver or kidney is waiting. When not deep in spreadsheets and process maps she enjoys oil painting and her dog, Moses. Melanie is fascinated by all of the data in transplant, and she strives to make Inova the destination for kidney transplant in the DMV area.
