Carolyn Thangawng, MD, MPH, FASAM

Dr. Carolyn Thangawng earned an M.D. from the University of Vermont and completed her Public Health and General Preventive Medicine residency with an MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. There, she served as Patient Safety Quality Improvement House Officer and holds a Greenbelt in Lean Six Sigma. She completed an Addiction Medicine fellowship at Caron Treatment Centers / Tower Health and leaned into her passion for public health by serving as Medical Director for the Opioid Treatment Programs in the Baltimore Pre-Trial Complex, where she helped expand treatment access for criminal-justice involved individuals with Opioid Use Disorder in Maryland’s pre-trial and prison settings. She treated the very first patient with Buprenorphine there and recently received a Physician of The Year award from Maryland's Daily Record. Dr. Thangawng currently serves as the State Medical Director for Maryland at Recovery Centers of America and an author for the American Society of Addiction Medicine Criteria 4th Edition for Correctional Settings and Reentry volume.
