April Bania, BSN, RN4 RNC-MNN
April Bania, BSN, RN, RNC-MNN, has been a postpartum nurse at Inova Fairfax Women’s Hospital since 2008. In addition to providing bedside care to postpartum patients, newborns, and their families, she contributes to the Women’s team in multiple leadership and educational roles. She received her bachelors of science in nursing from Chamberlain University.
She is certified in Maternal-Newborn Nursing and is currently pursuing certification in healthcare simulation. April has served as both Charge Nurse and Unit Supervisor and now thrives in a multifaceted role supporting staff development and clinical excellence. She provides education to Women’s Services staff through weekly Practicing Obstetric Emergencies with Teamwork and Simulation (POETS) sessions and helps facilitate obstetric emergency trainings and simulations across various nursing units.
April also serves as the Family-Centered Care Postpartum documentation and compliance auditor, Newborn Metabolic Screening auditor, and is an active member of the unit’s Environment of Care (EOC) Committee. She is Co-Chair of the Women’s Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative Committee, where she helps deliver evidence-based education and training each month, and she is a member of the Perinatal Loss and Bereavement Committee.
Her passion for patient education and the patient experience is reflected in her coordination of the Postpartum Discharge Phone Call Program, through which she connects with patients following discharge.
Outside of work, April enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter and traveling to Colorado, where she was born and raised.
