Anastassios C. Koumbourlis, M.D., M.P.H. is Professor of Pediatrics (Pulmonology) at George Washington University, School of Medicine and health Sciences and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. He received his Medical Degree from the National University of Athens, School of Medicine in his native Greece, and a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He did residencies in Preventive Medicine and in Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University and St Agnes Hospital. He completed fellowships in Pediatric Pulmonology & Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Pittsburgh/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Prior to his current position he was in the faculty of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University and of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research has focused on the study of lung mechanics in health and in disease. His clinical interests include congenital lung & airway abnormalities, acute & chronic respiratory failure, neuromuscular and skeletal disorders, sickle cell disease, and Flexible Bronchoscopy. He is currently working in a large prospective longitudinal study in cooperation with the National Institutes of Health on the long-term effects of COVID-19 infection.
