Cardiogenic Shock

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify early clinical and hemodynamic features of cardiogenic shock, including pre-shock states and common mixed-shock presentations encountered in the ED and ICU.
  2. Apply a structured, evidence-based approach to initial cardiogenic shock management, incorporating shock staging
  3. Recognize when and how to escalate care in cardiogenic shock, including timely consultation, multidisciplinary coordination, and transfer to advanced shock centers when indicated.
  4. Understand key system-level strategies to improve cardiogenic shock care at a community hospital, including standardized pathways, early activation triggers, and multidisciplinary shock team principles.
