Nicholas Ghionni is a board-certified Pulmonary and Critical Care physician who joined Inova Fairfax Hospital in 2025 as part of the Medical Critical Care service line. He primarily practices in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), with additional clinical responsibilities in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).

He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he served as Chief Fellow.

Dr. Ghionni has a passion for medical education, particularly mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology, and translating complex concepts into practical bedside applications. He serves as a preceptor for a yearlong mechanical ventilation curriculum for fellows and attending physicians and has been invited to teach mechanical ventilation at academic conferences and symposiums as well as in less traditional medical educational settings such as the Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) Annual Conference, where he teaches military special operations medics mechanical ventilation who are caring for critically wounded soldiers on the battlefields.

He is the founder and creator of the social media platform "Pulmtoilet" as well as the Peak Inspiration Podcast. Through these platforms, his mission is to make high-quality medical education specifically about the mechanical ventilator more accessible to all by removing traditional barriers between learners and experts.

He believes that critical care knowledge should reach those who need it most, regardless of geography, professional background, or clinical environment. Whether caring for a patient in an Brazilian ICU, an ED in West Africa, or treating the wounded on a battlefield in Ukraine, his goal is to help ensure that lifesaving knowledge reaches the bedside, wherever that bedside may be.
