Khurram Nasir, MD MPH MSc
Dr. Nasir is the William A. Zoghbi Centennial Chair in Cardiovascular Health and holds the position of Chief of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Wellness at Houston Methodist. He is also the founding co-director of the newly established Houston Methodist-Rice Digital Health Institute, after his tenure as founding Director for Cardiovascular Computational Health & Precision Medicine (C3-PH). Dr. Nasir earned his MD from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Pakistan, MPH from Johns Hopkins University, and MSc in Health Economics & Policy Management from the London School of Economics. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at UPMC and Boston Medical Center, followed by a Cardiology fellowship at Yale University and postdoctoral research training at Johns Hopkins and Massachusetts General Hospital. With over 1150 peer-reviewed publications and an H-index of 132, placing him among the top 2% of cited scientists globally. Dr. Nasir serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Preventive Cardiology, is an Associate Editor for the Journal of American College of Cardiology. One of Dr. Nasir’s most significant scientific contributions has been the development and implementation of the “Power of Zero” concept. His cumulative scholarship informed the conceptual framework for the 2018 US cholesterol management guidelines, which later influenced international guidelines. Dr. Nasir is also heavily engaged in issues concerning health equality, diversity, and social justice, particularly on developing and implementing the novel “Polysocial risk score” concept. His recent efforts are focused on leveraging big data, artificial intelligence, and digital health to revolutionize cardiovascular learning health system model care. He has been recognized with multiple prestigious awards, including the Johns Hopkins Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013, the Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award in 2020, and the Inaugural Game Changer Award from the Texas Asia Society in 2024.
