Tsai-Ling Liu, PhD

Tsai‑Ling Liu, PhD, is a Senior Data Scientist at Atrium Health's Center for Health System Sciences (CHASSIS) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy, Division of Public Health Sciences, at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Her work is grounded in advancing an Academic Learning Health Care System by leveraging routinely collected clinical data, stakeholder engagement, and rigorous mixed‑methods research to translate evidence into real‑time clinical decision‑making and system improvement. With over nine years of experience in health services research, she collaborates closely with patients, clinicians, and health system leaders to identify care delivery challenges and design pragmatic studies focused on improving health outcomes, reducing disparities, and advancing innovative care models.
In the area of artificial intelligence implementation and evaluation, Dr. Liu has co‑led, with Dr. Dharod, studies assessing ambient AI‑enabled clinical documentation technology (DAX Copilot) in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Using integrated quantitative and qualitative methods, this work informed system‑wide deployment across Advocate Health’s Southeast and Midwest divisions. Building on these efforts, they are currently co‑leading a Duke Endowment–funded study evaluating note accuracy and clinician experience with the Spanish version of DAX Copilot. Across her research, Dr. Liu brings deep expertise in translating data into actionable insights, ensuring methodological rigor while advancing continuous learning and improvement within an academic health system.
