Gary Heller, MD/PhD
Dr. Heller is former Professor of Medicine and Nuclear Imaging at the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. At that time he was also Director of Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory, Associate Director of the Division of Cardiology, and Program Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship program at Hartford Hospital, Hartford CT. He is currently Consultant to Nuclear Cardiology, Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ. He also is involved in consulting with several companies developing new PET radiotracers and Medical Advisor for Molecular Imaging Services, Wilmington DE.
Dr. Heller received his medical degree and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, Cleveland Ohio. He completed his Internship and Residency at Boston City Hospital and University Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. His Cardiovascular Fellowship training was at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts and he was on the faculty of the Harvard University Medical School. Prior to his positions in Connecticut, Dr. Heller was Associate Professor of Medicine at Brown University, and Director of Nuclear Cardiology at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, Pawtucket, RI.
Dr. Heller is Past-President of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and served on several ASNC Committees. He is currently chair of the ASNC Cardiovascular PET Committee. He has been or is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the American Journal of Cardiology, and the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology. He is also past-president of the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation (IAC)/Nuclear and IAC/CT as well as past-president of the Board of Directors of IAC. Dr. Heller has authored over 187 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and reviews. His research interests have been in the areas of cardiovascular outcomes following Nuclear Cardiology procedures, physiology of exercise, as well as a deep interest in new products expanding and improving the role of Nuclear Cardiology in Cardiovascular Imaging. He is co-editor of Nuclear Cardiology: Practical Applications 4th Edition (McGraw-Hill. 2022) and Nuclear Cardiology: Technical Applications (McGraw-Hill) as well as the Handbook of Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiac SPECT and PET, Second Edition (Springer), and co-editor of Current Concepts of Cardiovascular PET (McGraw-Hill, 2019).
