Michael F. O’Connor is an anesthesiologist and intensivist who is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care and the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He serves as the Executive Vice-Chair for the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care. He has served as the Executive Medical Director of Critical Care Services for the University of Chicago since 2008. He works clinically in both the operating rooms and intensive care units. He teaches medical students, residents, and critical care fellows. His research has included the development of new pharmaceuticals, sedation in critically ill patients, brain function monitoring, and human factors/patient safety.
