Michelle Melicosta, MD, MPH, MSc

Associate CMO and VP of Quality, Patient Safety and Professional Affairs
Originally from Boston, MA, Dr Melicosta completed her BA ’90 in Community Health and MD ‘94 at Brown University. She worked for the Peace Corps in Swaziland in 1988-89; and spent her final year of medical school working with SEWA in Gujerat, India; returning to complete residency in pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. After residency, she worked for eight years in Boston HealthNet Health Centers and as faculty with the Boston Combined Residency in Pediatrics. She then spent 5 years with the Indian Health Service in Eastern Navajo and 5 years managing complex care kids for the Army in Weisbaden Germany.
Dr. Melicosta began her MPH (on the care of children with medical complexity in low-resource settings) while still overseas, and in 2014 moved to Baltimore to complete it. She started at Kennedy Krieger in 2014 as a pediatric hospitalist; and became Medical Director of the inpatient neurorehabilitation unit in 2019. Her other roles at KKI include serving as the Medical Director for the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program, and Medical Director of the Sedation Service. In 2023, she became Associate Chief Medical Officer, and VP of Quality, Patient Safety, and Professional Affairs. Her academic interests continue to focus on caring for children with medical complexity in acutely or chronically under-resourced settings.
