Monica Longo, MD, PhD

Dr. Monica Longo is an obstetrician-gynecologist specialized in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, with a PhD in Preventive Medicine and Community Health. Her research focuses on maternal physiological changes during pregnancy and the connection between cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in mothers and their children.
After earning her medical degree from the University of Modena in 1996, she continued her training and research at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she obtained her Master’s and PhD and developed an innovative animal model for studying fetal programming.
Since 2013, she has worked at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where she founded a research lab and completed her Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialization. Since 2021, she has been at NICHD, coordinating clinical studies and projects on maternal morbidity, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and fetal assessment technologies. Her goal is to improve the health of mothers and children throughout all stages of life.
