April Barnado, MD, MSCI

April Barnado, M.D., MSCI., is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Barnado completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center, a fellowship in Rheumatology at Medical University of South Carolina, and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation at Vanderbilt. Dr. Barnado has played a pivotal role in validating the first algorithms that combine billing codes and clinical data to identify SLE patients accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) enabling researchers to identify SLE patients in large databases. Her recent work includes building and deploying risk models in real-time in the EHR to predict risk of developing autoimmune disease in individuals with positive antinuclear antibodies. She currently serves as the Research Director of the Lupus Clinic and is a practicing rheumatologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
