Jennifer Matro, MD

Dr. Jennifer Matro is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of breast cancer. She joined the breast team at Inova Schar Cancer Institute in February of this year.
Before joining Inova, she served on the faculty as a breast oncologist and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and Clinical Service Chief in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of California San Diego.
Dr. Matro treats all types of invasive breast cancer, and has particular expertise and interest in metastatic breast cancer and the unique needs of young women, pregnant women, and athletes diagnosed with breast cancer.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Matro has taught medical students, residents and fellows. She also lectures regionally and nationally to educate community oncologists and other practitioners about the most recent advances in breast cancer care. She is actively involved in research and clinical trials aimed at reducing the risk of breast cancer recurrence and optimizing the treatment of advanced breast cancer.
Dr. Matro completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital. She completed her residency and earned her medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
