Charles Love, MD, FACC, FAHA, FHRS, CCDS

Dr. Charles J. Love is an internationally known electrophysiologist and arrhythmia device specialist. He specializes in the techniques of implanting heart rhythm devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization devices, and hemodynamic monitoring devices. Dr. Love has a passion for teaching and is a highly sought speaker in the area of device implantation and management. He is best known for his work in extraction of chronically implanted pacing and defibrillator leads. He is recognized as a pioneer and one of the top lead management experts in the world. Dr. Love has participated in numerous clinical trials, and regularly consults with cardiac rhythm device companies, extraction device companies and other biomedical companies regarding the design of new devices.
Dr. Love graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine after receiving a BA in Biology at Earlham College in Richmond Indiana. He completed his training after medical school at The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio, after which he was appointed as Director of Cardiac Rhythm device services and rose to the rank of Professor of Internal Medicine. He spent over 30 years at OSU before moving to the New York University Langone Medical Center where he worked for over 3 years at the same rank and position. He subsequently joined the Johns Hopkins Hospital on July 1 of 2017, where he is a Professor of Medicine and Director of Cardiac Rhythm Device Services. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, as well as being a Board-Certified Cardiac Device Specialist. He was appointed to the examination development committee of the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (formerly NASPExAM, Inc) in 1995, and now serves as Chair of the Pacing and Defibrillation Competency Exam as well as President and Chair of the Board of Directors for the organization. Dr. Love has implanted over 9000 devices and has removed in excess of 3000 pacing and defibrillator leads. He has authored many papers and book chapters, as well as a single author book on basic cardiac pacing and defibrillation.
