Justin Wells, MD, FCAP

Dr. Justin Wells is the D’Aniello Chair of Biobanking and Translational Research at Inova Schar Cancer Center, the Pathology Division Chief for the Inova Health System and Chair of Pathology at Inova Fairfax Medical Center. He came to Inova from the Military Heath system after 18 years in the Army and 5 years in federal civilian service in which time he finished his medical school, AP/CP residency and fellowship in Breast Pathology. After training, he served in numerous roles such as the Deputy Chief of Pathology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Medical Director of the Pentagon’s DiLorenzo clinic laboratory, Director of the Murtha Cancer Center Biorepository and Clinical trials network and finally as the Director of repository, research and education at the Joint Pathology Center (formerly AFIP), considered one of the largest collections of pathologic specimen in the world. He spent much of academic time focused on breast pathology, advancing digital pathology, AI and biobanking culminating in over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, presentations and CME products. He has served on numerous national committees and currently serves as a Maryland delegate to the CAP House of Delegates, on the CAP biorepository accreditation committee and Chair of the White House Cancer Moonshot APOLLO Tissue workflow committee.
