Dr. Holland completed his sub-specialty fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology in New York City at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the combined program of Columbia and Cornell. While there, he was trained and mentored by the late Dr. Charlie Kleinman, one of the pioneers of fetal echocardiography.

Dr. Holland worked for 15 years at the University of Louisville and Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY.  His clinical practice focused on echocardiography, including fetal and transesophageal echo, while also working in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and seeing patients in outpatient clinics throughout the state.

Dr. Holland’s clinical and research interests include finding new ways to improve the number of babies with heart defects who are diagnosed during pregnancy. He developed a novel Fetal Tele-Echo Program throughout Kentucky, and published the results of research which showed that connecting hospitals across the state using telemedicine can improve care during pregnancy. This program improved outcomes throughout the region, with benefits for families who live in cities as well those in remote areas with limited resources.

During his time in Louisville, he had an opportunity to serve in a number of leadership roles, first in the Echocardiography Lab, and then as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and Co-Director of the Heart Institute at Norton Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Holland is very excited to be joining Inova and serving as the Director of the Fetal Care Center and Medical Director of Fetal Echocardiography. He looks forward to supporting the team of experts at Inova as they provide state-of-the-art testing and coordinated treatment, while constantly working to improve the care for expecting families in the region.
