Dr. Shkala Karzai is a graduate of the Inova general surgery residency and has returned to the Inova system as a board-certified, fellowship-trained breast and endocrine surgeon. She completed her fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Mount Sinai in New York, NY followed by a second fellowship in endocrine surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She comes back to Inova from private practice in Westchester, NY where she practiced both breast and endocrine surgery.

She sees patients with benign and malignant breast and endocrine diseases at the Alexandria, Schar, and Mount Vernon locations.  Her surgical expertise includes excisional biopsy, lumpectomy, mastectomy, nipple sparing mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary dissection, thyroid lobectomy, total thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, and neck dissections. Dr. Karzai is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.
