Dr. Antonio F. Saad, a widely respected expert in the field of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Critical Care Medicine, is the current Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Fellowship Program Director and Director of the Clinical Research Division at Inova Fairfax. Before joining Inova, he dedicated over six years at The University of Texas Medical Branch as a Critical Care/Maternal Fetal Medicine Professor, Associate MFM Fellowship Program Director, and Director of Clinical Research Division.

Born in Alvalade, Lisbon, Portugal, and now a proud citizen of the United States, Dr. Saad has an impressive educational background. After earning his Bachelor's degree in Biology from Haigazian University in Beirut, Lebanon, he pursued his Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of Beirut. He then embarked on an intensive postgraduate journey, beginning with a Preliminary PGY1-2 in General Surgery at the University of Southern California, Department of Surgery. He later became an OB/GYN Resident at the University of Texas Medical Branch before finally completing a fellowship in Critical Care and Maternal Fetal Medicine at the same institution.

Dr. Saad holds Board Certifications from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in OB/GYN, MFM, and Critical Care, and from the American Board of Anesthesia in Critical Care. He holds active medical licenses in both Texas and California.

A dedicated researcher, Dr. Saad's area of interest spans Critical Care, Cervical Ripening/Labor Induction, Amniotic Fluid Embolus, Preeclampsia, Fructose and Fetal Programming, and Coagulopathy and Obstetric Hemorrhage. He has been the principal investigator for numerous industry-funded projects, totaling grants well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Notably, his research projects have included studies on labor induction in women with unfavorable cervix, the efficacy and safety of DigiFab® in antepartum subjects with severe preeclampsia, and the effectiveness of antimicrobial dressing versus standard dressing in obese women undergoing Cesarean delivery.

As an educator, Dr. Saad has been actively involved in shaping the next generation of physicians. He serves as a facilitator for the Practice of Medicine courses at the University of Texas Medical Branch and has been an invited lecturer for multiple grand rounds and lecture series. His contributions have been recognized with multiple awards, including the OB/Gyn Golden Apple Award for five consecutive years and the 2020-2021 CREOG award from ACOG.

He has also taken on a variety of roles within professional organizations, including the American Society of Critical Care and the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine. Here, he has served as a chair of several education subcommittees, developing CME courses and updating guidelines for preterm birth diagnosis and management.

Dr. Saad's passion for his work is also evident in his prolific publication record, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles to his name. He serves as an editor and reviewer for several esteemed journals and is a recognized voice in his field, having participated in expert advisory boards, consultant panels, and international conferences.

Beyond his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Saad’s dedication to improving the health outcomes of mothers and their children stands as a testament to his commitment to his field. His work continues to influence the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology, benefiting countless families across the United States and beyond.
