Andrea Shields, MD, MS
Dr. Shields is an Associate Professor and Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut Health. Dr. Shields is a specialty and subspecialty Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is the Vice Chair of the Committee on Practice Bulletins – Obstetrics and is a member of the Governance Committee for the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. She is the co-creator of Obstetric Life Support, a multidisciplinary, evidence-based curriculum for healthcare providers to train on the prevention and management of maternal collapse and cardiac arrest. This initiative directly addresses the critical issue of maternal mortality and morbidity, providing healthcare providers in prehospital and hospital-based contexts that tools to respond to maternal medical emergencies. In addition to her interest in reducing maternal mortality, she is a nationally recognized expert in maternal sepsis.
