Sharon Bachman, MD, FACS
Sharon Bachman, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Medical Education at the UVA-Inova Campus. She received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1998. She completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Connecticut in 2005, which included a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. This was followed by a year of clinical fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and another year of post-doc research at the University of Missouri, completed in 2007. Her clinical and research interests are in Minimally Invasive Surgery, with special focus on inguinal and ventral hernia repairs and hernia repair materials, as well as surgical education and simulation.
Dr. Bachman joined Inova Medical Group in 2013 as a general/Minimally Invasive surgeon. She became the Surgery Clerkship Director for the Virginia Commonwealth University – Inova Campus in 2015. Inova transitioned their regional campus to the University of Virginia in 2021, and she has remained in the CD role. She is the Medical Director of CME for the Inova Health System. She is also the surgical representative to the Inova Physician Informatics Team. She is active in several surgical societies at a national level, including the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Hernia Society. She is a past president of the DC Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and was recently elected to the ACS Board of Governors.
