Judith Voynow, MD
Judith A. Voynow MD is the Edwin L. Kendig Jr. Professor of Pediatric Pulmonology, and Division Chief, Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. She received her MD from the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and completed her Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She then completed a two year research fellowship at the NIH in the laboratory of Dr. Ron Crystal. She served on the faculty at Children’s National Medical Center and Duke University School of Medicine prior to joining the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
Dr. Voynow’s research program has focused on airway biology in Cystic Fibrosis. She has investigated the role of Neutrophil elastase (NE) to upregulate airway mucin genes in CF and most recently has been investigating the role of NE to impair macrophage innate immune function in CF and COPD. Other research interests have included studying host factors that regulate ozone-induced airway inflammation and investigating biomarkers associated with BPD and airflow obstruction in preterm infants. Her work has been funded by the CF Foundation, NIH and the Department of Defense. She has served on CFF, NIH and State of Nebraska research grant review committees. She has published over 80 manuscripts and ten book chapters.
