James Krings, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Originally from the St. Louis area, he completed his clinical fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University. During his fellowship he studied the management of asthma and received an additional Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and his medical school at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Krings clinically works in both the intensive care unit and pulmonary clinics at Barnes Jewish Hospital/Washington University and is board certified in both pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Dr. Krings’ research lab is focused on finding ways to improve the care of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He has studied and published on the use of advanced quantitative imaging in asthma and is actively involved in multiple industry-sponsored trials in both asthma and COPD. His active research, which is currently funded by both the American Lung Association and National Institute of Health (NIH) partners with local clinics to evaluate how to improve the uptake of guideline-recommended asthma care in community healthcare settings. He was recently awarded an Early Career Investigator Award from the American Lung Association and received the Outstanding Citizenship Award at Washington University in St. Louis. He serves as a board member on the Missouri HealthNet Drug Prior Authorization Committee and teaches medicine residents and pulmonary fellows optimal asthma and COPD management.
