Dr. Jillian Catalanotti was born and raised in Long Island, NY. Dr. Catalanotti received a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology from Yale University, and subsequently became the first doctor in her family when she received her MD degree from Yale University as well. She received an MPH degree from the Harvard School of Public Health with a concentration in Family and Community Health. After completing Internal Medicine Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, she joined the faculty of The George Washington University in 2008 in the Division of General Internal Medicine. Her clinical areas of interest include primary care for patients from underserved populations, women's health and opioid use disorder. During her time on faculty, Dr. Catalanotti has designed multiple curricula for various learners, including college students, medical students and residents, typically on areas of intersection between medicine and public health. She has received multiple teaching awards that span the institutional, regional and national levels. Dr. Catalanotti co-designed and directs the Underserved Medicine & Public Health track of GW's Internal Medicine residency program. She served as Internal Medicine Residency Program Director from 2013-2021, overseeing GW's largest graduate medical education program and leading a revamp of the program's academic schedule in an approach to resolve inpatient-outpatient tension for trainees during their continuity clinic experience. She also led the program through the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, Dr. Catalanotti was appointed Vice Chair for Academic Affairs for the Department of Medicine as well as Director for the Division of General Internal Medicine. In these roles, she created infrastructure for promotion support, improved transparency of academic funding, and oversaw the launch of the Epic EMR for primary care at Medical Faculty Associates. Currently, Dr. Catalanotti continues to serve as Vice Chair and additionally serves as Associate Dean for Clinical Public Health & Population Health Practice for GW SMHS. In the latter role, she oversees clinical public health education for all GW medical students and is overseeing its expansion to include graduate medical trainees. Dr. Catalanotti's research areas of interest include graduate medical education and the treatment of patients with opioid use disorder. She is an active member of the Association for Program Directors in Internal Medicine, having served as an elected councilor, and in 2024 received their Distinguished University Medical Educator Award. A Professor of Medicine and of Health Policy & Management, Dr. Catalanotti serves as co-chair of the GW SMHS Appointments, Promotion and Tenure Committee and is committed to engaging faculty in the promotion pathway.
