anoushka Afonso, MD, FASA
Dr. Anoushka Afonso is an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), where she serves as the Director of Enhanced Recovery Programs. A graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Afonso completed her residencies in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She joined MSK in 2013.
Dr. Afonso specializes in perioperative medicine, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), and patient outcomes following cancer surgery. Her commitment to patient-centered care drives her multidisciplinary collaborations and evidence-based approach.
As the newly elected president of the American Society of Enhanced Recovery & Perioperative Medicine (ASER-PM), Dr. Afonso is a leading advocate in her field. Additionally, she serves as the Faculty Director of the MSK Summer Research Pipeline Program, mentoring high school and medical students in oncology research. Recognized for her mentorship and inspiration, Dr. Afonso was awarded the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) Inspire Award. When not at work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
