Dr. Gosztyla grew up in southern New Hampshire then obtained her bachelor's of science degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics at Rensselar Polytechnic Institute. She taught high school math and science for two years before commissioning in the US Navy and obtaining her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She completed her general surgery residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and a postdoctoral research fellowship in the laboratory of David Hackam at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Following graduation, Dr. Gosztyla practiced general surgery at WRNMMC while running a trauma and critical care preclinical laboratory at Naval Medical Research Command in Silver Spring, MD. Her group focused on trauma outcomes related to blast exposure and aeromedical evacuation. She was the surgical planner for the Pacific Partnership 2022 mission where she coordinated and provided oversight for over 1100 procedures performed on board the USNS Mercy and in partner civilian institutions. She is the current junior fellow in General and Thoracic Pediatric Surgery at Childrens National Medical Center. In her time away from clinical responsibility she like to spend time outdoors with her husband Rob, her daughters Hallie and Isla, and her weimaraner, Giggs.
