Mr. Michael Ruiz
Currently works at Children's National Hospital as a Patient Care Quality and Research Data Analyst for the Department of Nursing Science Professional Practice and Quality. Mr. Ruiz was born in Trinidad and Tobago but since the age of 7 has lived in Northern Virginia. He attended Hampden-Sydney College in southern Virginia where he played football and graduated in 2002 with a B.A. in Psychology. His career at Children's National began on the Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Unit in 2004 as a Child Psychiatric Specialist, gaining 16yrs of clinical experience and accepting multiple promotions along the way. He went back to school while working at Childrens and completed postgraduate at American Intercontinental University-graduating summa cum lade with an MBA in Organizational and Developmental Psychology. He has chaired system level councils such as the Shared Nursing Leadership Quality and Research council and currently sits on multiple system level councils. He has experience assisting and leading nurses in quality and research projects across the Children's Hospital organization. He is a published co-author and has had multiple abstracts/posters accepted at Children's National Research Education and Innovation Week, and one at the Beryl Institue. He is currently a member of the Children's Hospital Association Behavioral Health Advisory Committee as he is a senior Crisis Prevention and Intervention Crisis Instructor. He and has taught over 1700 healthcare professionals in crisis prevention and intervention de-escalation techniques. He enjoys volunteering in his community, gardening, playing golf and softball, traveling, relaxing on his hammock or just enjoying a nice dinner with his wife Amy. In 2022 he completed the Mindful Mentor program is currently a mindful mentor for Children's National.
