Saba Sheikh
Saba Sheikh is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania (Penn). She has research expertise in clinical studies of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes (CFRD). Her research has focused on body composition and glucose abnormalities in CF. Within this context, she has worked on studies examining body composition (particularly lean mass) and glucose intolerance in CF and their relationship with CF relevant outcomes. She collaborates with the CHOP-UPenn CFRD research group on studies examining the pathophysiology of diabetes in CF. She is also intimately involved in CF studies at CHOP through the CF Foundation Therapeutics Development Network.
Her clinical expertise includes CF, including advanced CF lung disease, CFTR-related disorders and CFTR related metabolic syndrome, and transplant medicine. She works closely within the CHOP CF Center and CHOP Lung Transplant Program to provide care to this vulnerable population. She has also lead quality improvement projects in the CF Center improving screening for hyperglycemia among people with CF and the referral process to transplant centers for CF patients with advanced lung disease.
